Makeup Bag Minimalism | #8 Eyes

April 10, 2015

Most days, my eye makeup is complete with a couple of coats of mascara, but I do have a few other eye products in my makeup arsenal, which I whip out for my slightly less “everyday” looks. I still keep it pretty simple though. So I’ve listed them below in vague order of use (after mascara), depending on how done up I want to be…

This is my favourite thing. I would do this everyday if I could be bothered! There seem to be lots of different ways that people do this, but what I do when I tightline, is fill in the gaps between my lashes at the root. It’s really subtle but it makes the lashes looks so much thicker and helps pull everything together. I use the Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eyeliner with a flat eyeliner brush (this is a really good tutorial showing EXACTLY what I do). The LM cake liner is so easy to use, even on sensitive eyes, and just takes the eyes up a notch.

The next two products are interchangeable or layer-able, depending on my mood. I always have a black kohl pencil on hand when I want something a bit more dramatic. I like to wear it on my waterline and smudge it under my eye a litter with a cotton bud. The Rimmel Scandal Eyes Kohl has been a longtime favourite of mine.

Liquid Liner
I use liquid liner with or without kohl to add some definition to my eyes. And it’s great because you can go as bold or as subtle as you want. A thin line can really add a lot of definition and help give the illusion of thicker lashes, and who doesn’t love a good cat eye? I always go waterproof because of my goddam watery eyes. At the moment I’m using this one from Rimmel.

Neutral Shadow
Ok this is definitely not something I do often, but I do think it’s good to have the option of a few neutral eyeshadows, for a really simple smokey eye, or just to sweep some colour over the lids once in a while. One palette with a few shades is definitely enough for me! So the naked II palette is perfect.

And that’s it. I have each of these in my makeup bag and that’s all I need really to achieve all the looks in my repertoire.

Do you have any holy grail eye makeup products you can’t live without?

Something New // Graphic Tees

April 5, 2015

I tend to keep my t-shirts plain because I find it works better for a smaller capsule wardrobe. I’d feel too obvious wearing the same distinctive pattern or colour regularly. So graphic t-shirts are a bit of a departure for me – even stripes make me nervous! But I think they can look really cool thrown on under a leather or denim jacket. I especially love the retro Adidas trefoil logo tee.

Minimalist Home Decor // Plants + Flowers

My home is not a minimalist paradise. I wish it was. I can’t describe how happy I feel when the house is clean and tidy. I just wish it stayed that way longer. I am doomed to forever be a messy person, I suppose. I like to keep surfaces as clear as possible, without them looking too stark. Everyone seems to be going crazy for succulents these days and I also have a few of these low-maintenance plants dotted around. I have these tiny ones from Ikea. They are SO cute and so far seem to be foolproof (touch wood). It’s nice to have a little greenery in my living room.

I also love having flowers at home. But as much as I like the idea of fresh flowers, they are not something I pick up on a regular basis. A bunch of fresh flowers is usually reserved for a birthday/valentine’s day level event, unlike my mum who ALWAYS has fresh flowers at her house (maybe she should be a blogger)… I’ve been looking for a pretty, cost effective and *buzz word* low-maintenance alternative and found these at OKA. I also really like the idea of using jars and bottles as vases. Always a fan of repurposing!

Spring Statement : White Jeans, Four Ways

April 1, 2015

I like the idea of white jeans. They are not the most practical wardrobe addition though. Especially in the spring/summer where my favourite thing to do is to spend great lengths of time sitting on grass, eating red fruit. But I do like to live life on the edge, and I do love jeans… so while I contemplate adding them as a statement piece in my wardrobe, here are some of my favourite ways to style white jeans.
